Paula's Kitchen

The most basic foundation of Miksang is the notion that one does not have to go anywhere special in order to see. We could actually experience each moment of perception fully - wherever we happen to be. We could go to India or to the Arctic or to the Moon, but if we carry our conceptual framework around with us, the fixed notions of good and bad, beautiful and ugly and so on, then we are simply going to see the same old thing, wherever we are.

Last year I was visiting Paula and Whit Jones in Boise, Idaho. The kitchen of the house was amazing. It was quite spacious, had wonderful morning light, many interesting utensils, a double chrome sink and there was always some breakfast preparation in progress. The first morning when I came down half awake in search of a cup of coffee, I was jolted awake by the vividness of the light on the bright colored items around the sink. Thereafter I made a point to bring my camera down with me each morning.
