Miksang is contemplation and meditation in action for me. After a warm-up exercise of being a human camera, flashing open eyes on my world, I mindfully put one foot before the other and aimlessly wander through my neighborhood. I explore what attracts my attention, what might be repulsive, and even what I might usually ignore in a stop of my step. In that stop I look. In that looking I might see. When I see is when I bring my camera into a perception that is right here. I record an image appearing in that moment. Doing this again, again, and again I have found a confidence that allows me to see clearly, to know what is and to be decisive about engaging directly with my world. What a delight when I open my camera’s eye in synch with the opening of my eye.

In this opening I connect to a flash of perception of something truly seen. Between the camera’s sensor and my eye and brain, there is an intimacy felt. This intimacy defies comment and becomes love. Miksang is a way, a path, to finding genuine appreciation of my world. I hope that what I have learned in my training with Michael Wood and Julie DuBose can be shared and enjoyed by all who have the courage to stop look and see in our very busy speedy world. Miksang practitioners are among the bravest and gentlest people I know. They dare to expose their heart in a photograph.

I am honored to share some of my images on www.Miksang.com.
