Sometimes I think I'm in love with my camera because if I haven't used it in awhile I actually start to really miss it. But then I realize it's not the camera itself-- it's the experience of Miksang practice.

In Miksang the practice of taking photographs is also the practice of being present in the freshness of a moment, letting phenomena and visual perceptions come to you, and then playing in that moment.

In order to be present in that way you have to work with mind and
body synchronization as well as the camera. First, you have to be IN
your body not in your fantasies or ideas about what kind of photograph you want to take. Then the mind begins to settle and clear. And then a new world of perception opens up. And then you can start shooting.

We often work together -- going on shooting expeditions around the city and then showing our work to each other. That's also an amazing practice because it's so on the spot, intimate, and you learn much more about yourself and your work than if you work on your own entirely.
