Miksang Instructor - Dennis Connor

“Look. This is your world! You can’t not look! There is no other world. This is your world; it is your feast.”
Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche
My Miksang journey has been an exciting, wonderful and startling discovery of the phenomenal world. I liken myself to Neo in the cult-classic movie, “The Matrix”, where I am offered the blue pill or the red pill. Should I choose the blue pill and continue my primordial sleep in my cocoon, surrounding myself in the comforts of daily life with my preconceptions of what is and what should be? Or should I take the red pill, permitting myself to explore the world as it really is – without judgment and bias, and with unadulterated freshness? Like Neo, I took the red pill. And I haven’t looked back since…
It has allowed me to enjoy taking my camera out and walk down the street to shoot incredible photographs of the primordial world we live in; without any agenda, without preconceptions and without judgment. The technique of synchronizing eye and mind, to capture fresh and pure perception, coupled with the ability to effectively communicate that moment via photography has been invaluable in my growth, both as a photographer and as a human.
I am eternally grateful to my Miksang teachers, Michael Wood and Julie DuBose, for their selfless efforts in educating and mentoring me in the Miksang discipline. I am thankful that I took the red pill.
“When we see things as they are, they make sense to us: the way leaves move when they are blown by the wind, the way rocks get wet when there are snowflakes sitting on them. We see how things display their harmony and their chaos at the same time. So we are never limited by beauty alone, but we appreciate all sides of reality properly.”
