How to Become a Miksang Instructor

The Miksang Institute receives many inquiries from new and old students alike, asking us how they could become a Miksang Teacher.

The Miksang Institute for Contemplative Photography has a Teacher Training Program available for those who would like to present the path of direct seeing to others. These teachings have been carefully developed over the past 30 years by Michael Wood and for the past 13 years by Julie DuBose, and they are both dedicated to training new teachers thoroughly and deeply before they authorize them to teach on behalf of the Miksang Institute for Contemplative Photography.

Here is a list of pre-requisites that must be accomplished before applying to the Miksang Institute Teacher Training Academy. All introductory workshops (Opening the Good Eye) must be taken with Michael Wood, Julie DuBose, Helen Vink, Brian Sano, Genice Wickum or Maxine Evans. All subsequent workshops must be taken with Michael Wood or Julie DuBose.

Opening the Good Eye An Introduction to Miksang (Level 1)

Making Contact: Discovering THAT (Level 2a)

Beyond the Elements of Form: The Heart of Perception (Level 2b)

Space: Further Dimensions of Perception (Level 3)

The Essential Instructions on Looking and Seeing (Master Class)

Cutting Loose: Leaping Beyond Miksang (Level 4)

You can find out more details about these workshops by visiting the Miksang Journey Page on this web site.

After the completion of these workshops, one may apply to the Miksang Teacher Training Institute. The application process includes an essay which expresses one's understanding of the Miksang Journey, along with a series of images that does the same visually.

After the successful completion of the Teacher Training Program, one is authorized to begin presenting, 'Opening the Good Eye' on behalf of the Miksang Institute. The Institute supports all teachers by creating a page for them at miksang.com, placing their classes on the workshops page, advertising their classes and processing all registrations.

The Teacher Training Academy is scheduled to take place every two years and the next one will take place during year two of the Miksang Summer Institute Program.
